disparity

while seeing a friend to her car,
i stood on our back porch
holding the baby
and looked on, aghast,
as 2 ravens
dismembered a dead rat
on the garage roof

it seemed like a metaphor
for worse violence in other places
but in my soft small sunlit world
this is the extent of horror

i am reminded to take note
of disparity
